Are wildlife corridors the right path?

Article Abstract:

Many ecologists and conservationists support wildlife corridors as crucial for preserving biodiversity, but opponents maintain they are unproven and too expensive. The debate is currently centering on the corridor linking Los Penasquitos Canyon in California to the Torrey Pines nature preserve.

Press coverage: leaving out the big picture

Inconclusive epidemiological studies of health risk factors often get reported by the mainstream press as definitive breakthrough events. Scientist blame journalists for distorting their research for the sake of headlines. Journalists claim scientific journals encourage such publicity.

The high cost of biodiversity

Article Abstract:

The Wildlands Project presented at the 1993 meeting of the Society for Conservation Biology is a sweeping plan for a network of wilderness reserves and wildlife corridors covering as much as half of the US. The plan's scientific base and its controversial aspects are discussed.
