Atomistic simulations for multiscale modeling in bcc metals

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the atomistic simulation of the fundamental deformation and defect properties of prototype bcc transition metals by means of FP-LMTO electronic structure and MGPT interatomic-potential techniques. The approach can yield reliable results on ideal shear strength, elastic moduli and high-symmetry features of the gamma surfaces and the basic bulk characteristics of the metal. The calculations generate valuable information that validates interatomic potentials to treat extended defects.

A modeling investigation of thermal and strain induced recovery and nonlinear hardening in potential based viscoplasticity

Article Abstract:

A multiaxial potential based viscoplastic model has been developed to determine the influence of strain-induced recovery on the uniaxial and multiaxial response of viscoplastic materials. The model contains three internal state variables and a thermal recovery mechanism. Results obtained using the proposed model show that the inclusion of strain-induced recovery provided much-needed flexibility without having an adverse effect on the high homologous response.

A nonlinear kinematic hardening model for elastoplastic deformations in grey cast iron

Article Abstract:

A nonlinear kinematic hardening model has been developed for characterizing the elastoplastic behavior of graphitic grey cast iron. The model uses classical theories of plasticity to analyze irreversible thermo-elasto-plastic deformations in a cylinder head made of grey cast iron. Different yield functions and hardening concepts were also used in the investigation. The results were found to be in good agreement with existing experimental data.
