Bacterial gene swapping in nature

Article Abstract:

Horizontal gene transfer between bacteria in nature oftens more often that scientists once perceived. Studies to determine the nature of conjugation would be able to shed some light on the mechanism and thus enable scientists to prevent risks of releasing genetically engineered microbes.

The Philippines produces 30 million metric tons of organic material each year, which is conducive to the development of biotechnology-based products. Some of the products on the marketplace are animal vaccines, bio-organic fertilizers and microbial pesticides.
