Biodiversity: its meaning and its value

Article Abstract:

Biodiversity encompasses the diverse human, plant and animal species life found in the earth and it is invaluable commercially, ecologically and recreationally. Biodiversity falls into categories that include species diversity, genetic diversity and ecosystem diversity. Growing population, fragmentation of lands and destruction of wild life habitats are some of the reasons for the loss of biodiversity.

Which came first, the hypha or the yeast?

Article Abstract:

Research shows that the yeast form of C. albicans is maintained by the general transcriptional repressor TUPI. Deletion of this repressor causes the fungus to grow only in its pseudohyphal form. The general consensus is that the yeast form is the default. Understanding of the polymorphic nature of C. albicans is still preliminary.
