New piece in Alzheimer's puzzle

Article Abstract:

Duke University researchers identified the gene APoE4, which codes for apolipoprotein E, as a risk factor in late-onset Alzheimer's disease, the prevalent form of the dementia. The relationship between ApoE4 and the peptide beta-amyloid may be a key to onset.

Genetic clues to Alzheimer's disease

Article Abstract:

Mutations in the genes for beta-ayloid precursor protein, S182 protein or STM2 protein cause the genetic forms of Alzheimer's disease. The role of these mutations in the process that forms beta-amyloid is discussed.
