Issues relating to the supply of power to California, United States, are discussed. Utility supplies are being outpaced by power consumption, with demand growing by 2% each year. Alternative sources of power are considered, including the harnessing of wind and wave power.

Fuel cells hit home

Palo Alto, CA-based Electric Power Research Institute collaborated with Analytic Power to produce a three-kilowatt residential fuel cell power source prototype. Analytic Power Pres Don Prohaska claims that a commercial form of the fuel cell costs approximately $3,000.

A description is presented of the Phototherm photovoltaic panel which has been designed and developed by Solar Design Associates. This panel is able to convert 50% of the sunlight reaching it to useable energy.
