Turning with the wind

Article Abstract:

This article describes the design and construction of a 125 meter high Glasgow Science Center tower in Scotland. The tower's design based on computational fluid dynamics consists of a stair tower and airfoil-shaped outriggers. The slender tower rotates 360 degrees in the direction of the wind.

A tale of two towers: the structures

Article Abstract:

In preparing two lots in New York City's (US) Times Square as sites for modern skyscrapers, engineers devised structural systems that would allow for subway lines, subway stations, and a century-old theater. Engineers explain the way in which the slender structures were efficiently stabilized.
