OSTP gears up for change

Gibbons, who plans to step down from the OSTP sometime in 1997, is credited with preventing deep research-funds cuts and founding the National Science and Technology Council. His likely successor is former CIA director John Deutch, who could bring more political clout to the office.

Science chair Walker calls it quits

Article Abstract:

Walker, a 20-year House veteran, announced he will not run again in 1996. If the Republicans retain control, Space subcommittee chmn James Sensenbrenner is likely to win the Science chairmanship. Walker fought hard to preserve basic-science funding in the GOP seven-year budget plan.
