Body heat: QWIPs offer a new way to see in the dark

Article Abstract:

AT&T's Bell Laboratories have developed a new type of quantum-well infrared photodetector. Bell's photodetector uses gallium arsenide rather than mercury cadmium telluride as a semiconductor. AT&T plans to market the photodetector to the military and civilians.

Storage space: imaging technologies offer promising ways to store data

Researchers at AT and T Bell Laboratories and IBM Almaden Research Laboratories report using imaging technologies to increase the amount of data that can be stored on magneto-optic and write-once plastic discs.
