Bright prospects

Article Abstract:

Stainless steel is used in various industrial equipment and processes because of its superior properties. The chromium content of stainless steel has an affinity for oxygen and forms a protective layer of chromium oxide on the surface of the steel. Massive amounts of stainless steel are used in food production and storage since this type of metal is non-corrosive and does not produce a taste when contact with food is made. The nuclear power industry employs stainless steel with low cobalt content for power production and radiation containment.

Smart moves

Article Abstract:

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has suggested modifications to the Federal air bag requirements to reduce the danger posed by air bags to children. The suggestions have the goal of encouraging the development of smart air bag systems which can detect when a child is present and automatically adjust to the situation. Manufacturers which cannot provide such smart systems must install air bag warning labels in the car.
