Bringing high-tech to low-income people

Article Abstract:

Community-based organizations (CBOs) provide low-income communities with some political and economic leverage to revitalize their economy. CBOs will have to face the challenges of devolution of federal funds and public services and the effects of privatization. One way to meet these challenges is to forge alliances with local technology companies. Pioneer Human Services operates a high-tech metal working facility that performs contract work for Boeing. The Center for Employment Training has placed people in firms such as IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Motorola.
