Researchers in Japan have succeeded in introducing fragments of functioning human chromosomes into mice. The techniques used in the transfer are described and possible applications are discussed.

Research indicates that pig retroviruses could infect human cells following the use of pig organs for transplantation. A study determined that pig-to-human viral infections can occur in vitro.
