Cable access

Article Abstract:

The Owensboro Bridge in Owensboro, KY, showcases the ingenious engineering design made by Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas Inc. The bridge, which will be called William Natcher Bridge at its completion, is one of the steel bridges with the longest cable-stayed spans in the US. Its 1,200 feet cable-stayed span covers the Ohio River between Owensboro, KY, and Rockport, IND. The bridge has a vertical clearance of 78 feet above the normal pool of elevation at 360.4 feet. Aside from a low-cost construction, the design makes for an accessible and easy maintenance of the bridge.

Asymptotically stabilizing angle feedback for a flexible cable gantry crane

Article Abstract:

A study has been conducted to develop control algorithms for flexible cable crane models. The resulting distributed crane model was found to work more efficiently when fitted with a nonlinear trolley velocity feedback. Findings have revealed that the use of the proportional, derivative and coupling amplification controller asymptotically stabilizes all modes of a linear gantry crane model. Root locus analysis was used as a provider of the control design method.
