The technology is based on the rigging systems found in racing yachts and involves the use of high-strength alloys that allow smaller-diameter cables or rods to bear heavy loads.

The Washington state provides a safe natural sanctuary for herons through the Point Roberts heronry, a public-owned property which houses a total of 400 pairs of birds. B.C. also instituted a related program aimed at identifying bird colonies to be placed under conservation programs.
