Cable-stayed convention center

Article Abstract:

A cable-stayed roof will be used in the expansion of Bartle Hall Convention Center in Kansas City, MO. Air rights over the city's Crosstown Freeway were used due to limited space and the roof would be used to bridge the freeway. The cable-stayed roof was selected since it would require only two concete pylons to be constructed inside the exhibition space. It is more economical than the truss, space frame or girder system and provide an effective overhead support system. High-strength bridge strands would be used so that the roof loads would not be transmitted to the freeway.

Fast-track stadium

Article Abstract:

The Cairo Stadium Indoor Sports Complex consists of four separate halls joined by an access concourse and eight service towers. The main hall has a seating capacity of 20,000 and 120 meters in diameter and 29.8 meters in height. The stadium uses a cable-truss system for the domed roofs in all four halls due to design constraints. The short construction period discounted the use of any wet-pour system. It also should not affect any work being done at the lower levels of the hall and must ensure worker safety.

An unconventioanl approach

Article Abstract:

This article describes the design and construction of the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburg, Pensylvania. The architecture mimics a series of covered suspension bridges and a cable-supported stainless stell roof, which provides daylight to the interior spaces.
