Bioavailability of nonextractable (bound) pesticide residues to earthworms

Article Abstract:

This study undertakes the investigation of the release of 14C-labeled residues in soil and their uptake by earthworms, with results suggesting that bound residue formation was retarded by the presence of earthworms. The Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Institute of Environmental and Natural Sciences, Lancaster University conducted the study.

Iron promoted reduction of chromate by dissimilatory iron-reducing bacteria

Article Abstract:

This study elucidates the use of dissimilatory iron reduction as a primary pathway to sequester and detoxify chromate in anaerobic water and soils. The Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Stanford University and the Soil Science Division of the University of Idaho conducted the study.
