Clinton defends R&D in partisan speech

Article Abstract:

Clinton claimed in his Oct 1995 speech that the Republican budget plan under Congressional consideration would reduce federal R&D spending by 33%. Democrats backed Clinton's condemnation of the legislation, but many think he should say that R&D spending cuts will be a major factor in his veto decisions.

Moderation in science budgeting

Article Abstract:

Scientists have been discouraged by many of Clinton's actions, such as his criticism of the pharmaceutical industry, which have not been supportive of science and technology. Scientists had believed that Clinton would increase funding to science and technology as a means of creating jobs.

Democrats urge Clinton to stand up for R&D programs

Article Abstract:

Democrats are urging Pres Clinton to veto any Republican appropriations bills that are inconsistent with his R&D budget proposals. Democrats are concerned that Republicans are most likely to cut funds for technology development.
