Clinton backs SSC, space station

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton announced his support for two major science projects, repeating his request for $640 million for SSC and asking for $2.1 billion to fund a scaled-down version of the space station. However, both projects may not survive despite Clinton's support.

Science catches Clinton's eye

Article Abstract:

Pres Clinton's 1999 budget request contains the largest dollar increase in history for the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. The budget surplus and easing of partisan tensions are factors prompting the funding increase.
