The changing frontiers of science and technology

The US, which used to be the leader in technology, faces more foreign competition, especially in the fields of energy and chemicals. US government regulations are one barrier to global competitiveness. The US must reverse the merchandise trade deficit and conduct more research on liquid fuels.

Science and technology policy

Federal science policy is changing, and the Government Performance and Results Act is one of the instruments of this change. Politicians formulating science policy should keep in mind that science and research at the university level make important contributions to the US economy.
