Concrete connections

Article Abstract:

A pilot study made by California State University showed the effectivity of polymer composite overlays in repairing composite connections. There was an improvement in stiffness and strength values while the ductility of one repaired specimen increased by 42%. The use of polymer composites is based on the concrete ductile moment resisting frames which employs the weak-girder strong-column concept. The composite connection is designed so the joints and columns remain elastic under seismic forces.

In the field

Article Abstract:

This article discusses advantages of using fiber-reinforced polymer in bridge construction as shown in the reconstruction of the deck on Bentley Creek Bridge in New york. Also, a new sludge processing system called Bioset converts sludge into Class A biosolids and found to be economical.

Closing in on approval

Article Abstract:

The specifications and benefits are presented for using high-performance fiber-reinforced polymers in construction. Polymers allow faster completion of projects than concrete, as concrete requires curing, and do not add as much dead load weight to structures.
