Constructability for drilled shafts

Article Abstract:

The construction of a drilled shaft foundation is done by making a cylindrical hole in the ground and pouring reinforced-concrete. Using the principles of constructability can lead to the economical construction of drilled shafts. Constructability is the proper use of construction knowledge and experience in planning, design, logistics and field work to obtain projected goals. The load-transfer behavior of drilled-shafts, the correct equipment and materials and inspection requisites are all considered in constructability. In addition, a proper site investigation, engineering experience and quality control are regarded to be crucial elements.

Prospects for no-dig technology in Hong Kong construction industry

Article Abstract:

It is claimed that 'no-dig' technology is better than open-excavation methods because it does not create fumes and dust. It also avoids destroying roads and sidewalks. However, it is not clear if this method will be used in public utility construction projects aligned with roads. Its use in Hong Kong are in projects which do not follow the direction of roads. This include the Fanling South sewer project, the Island line of the Mass Transit Railway and the tunnels of the Hong Kong Electric Co.

Constructability and constructability programs: white paper

Article Abstract:

Alteration andaddition projects often pose the greatest problems in constructability. After aproject has been designed to function properly when completed, owners usually set time and manner constraints on the project. It is necessary to evaluate these constraints so that a feasible budget and schedule can be planned. Any misunderstanding over these constraints can lead to conflicting attitudes over the project.
