Corrosion control

Article Abstract:

Cathodic protection is the most effective means of corrosion control for submerged metallic structures such as pipelines. The use of a cathodic protection system necessitates that the entire pipeline and all its metallic parts should have electrical continuity. Nonconductive protective pipe coatings should enhance the ability of cathodic protection to reduce or eliminate corrosion for pipelines which are increasingly being designed with nonwelded joints. These pipelines differ from welded pipelines in their ability to resist the formation of rust.

Parking lot corrosion cure

Article Abstract:

Damaged tendons in a parking lot in Miami, Florida were replaced by new tendons using full post-tensioning-system removal and replacement to ensure workability of the parking lot during the renovation. Initial examination determined the prototype beams with damaged tendons. The tendons were removed from the ends or centers of the beams and slabs. The original sheathing was cleaned before new tendons were inserted. A shoring system supported the temporary structures during renovation, and the joints were made waterproof.

Automated parking garage provides tight fit

Article Abstract:

New Jersey's Hoboken Parking Authority is constructing the nation's first automated parking structure for commercial use. The $6.5 million facility is designed to park about 324 automobiles in a 929 sq m area. It will incorporate key cards, steel columns and a concrete shell. Project architect Patrick Gilgary would also integrate a red brick facade and false windows to blend the building with its surroundings.
