Cosmic puffery: whither goest the big bang?

Article Abstract:

Models of the big bang suggest that the cosmological constant called lambda is small or zero, but particle physics theory indicates that lambda may be greater by a factor of at least 10 to the 52nd power. Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) satellite results neither prove nor disprove inflation.

Inconstant cosmos

Article Abstract:

Astronomers are using scientific satellites to study objects that produce gamma rays and x-rays. Research indicates that these objects emit large amounts of energetic radiation and that the universe is characterized by rapid changes.

Born yesterday

Article Abstract:

Scientists are now theorizing that the age of the universe is more than 12 billion years old instead of eight billion years old. An analysis of globular clusters sets the age estimate back four billion years.
