DOE moves to higher ground

Article Abstract:

The DOE has come a long way since the spring of 1995 when it was criticized for mismanagement of its 26 laboratories and faced budget cuts totalling $700 million. Observers predict a successful research future for the agency, citing better budget outlooks and shifting political climates.

Three 1997 reports on energy policy and global warming are discussed. They are the President's Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology report on energy research, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report and UK scientist Robert May's report on global warming.

Panel would close Princeton reactor

Article Abstract:

The Fusion Energy Advisory Committee recommended closing the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor unless the Dept of Energy budget is increased. The panel said some of the savings should be used to fund US participation in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor.
