Dam rehabilitation bill easily passes in House

Article Abstract:

The U.S. House of Representatives approved the Dam Rehabilitation and Repair Act on Oc tober 29, 2007 which will provide grants to states for the rehabilitation of certain public dams. President George W. Bush's veto of the Water Resources Development Act has been overridden by the Congress, the bill directs the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to carry out 900 projects related to water supply.

A better barrier

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the remedial construction to the Walter F. George Lock and Dam to stop seepage from one of its dams. Construction of a cutoff wall upstream of the dam's concrete monolith is expected to remedy the seepage problem. The wall comprises secant piles installed about 100 feet below the water's surface. The Dam spans the Chattahoochee River between alabama and Georgia.

Legislation would provide federal funds to states for dam repairs

Article Abstract:

A new legislation introduced by New York representative, Sue Kelly, the Dam Rehabilitation and Repair Act of 2005, amends the National Dam Safety Program Act. According to the new amendment, the states can avail federal funds for dam repairs.
