David Tudor as composer/performer in Cage's Variations II

Article Abstract:

It is difficult to distinguish David Tudor's performance as a performer or composer as he specialized in the realization of indeterminate scores and entered into avant- garde composers. Tudor's realization of John Cage's 'Variations II' is discussed as a case study in identifying the overlapping of performer and composer roles both within the context Tudor's history.
