Defusing delay claims

Article Abstract:

Delay claims can be avoided by allowing the periodic analysis of the status of a project and by a timely and fair allocation of responsibility for delays. Disagreements between the contractor and the client should be resolved quickly and all parties in the dispute should be committed to the success of the process. Partnering, contemporaneous period analysis and alternative dispute resolution are three mechanisms to prevent or resolve delay claims before they erupt into costly and time-consuming litigation.

Congress returns to face full legislative calender

Article Abstract:

US Congress are expected to resume on Jan 1998 to decide on matters relating to the civil engineering profession. These issues will mostly be those that were not tackled in 1997, such as those pertaining to the reauthorization of surface transportation law, Superfund reform, and revision of the Endangered Species Act of 1973. However, there is no guarantee that deadlines for these proposals would be met. A rundown of laws passed in 1997 is presented.
