Design curve to characterize fatigue strength

Article Abstract:

Fatigue (S-N) data usually show relatively large scatter. An S-N curve that represents fatigue strength is needed for engineering design. This curve must be found in the lower, or safe side of the data. A procedure based on the tolerance interval concept as proposed by Owen is presented. The process is general and can be used for nonlinear heteroskedastic data with runouts. The method is approximate but it takes into account the statistical distribution of the parameter estimates and can easily be automated.

Creep-induced microstructural change in 304-type austenitic stainless steel

Article Abstract:

The microstructure changes of 304-type austenitic stainless steel subjected to a tensile stress at 973 K is studied and the shear-wave attenuation and velocity using electromagnetic acoustic resonance (EMAR) is monitored. EMAR demonstrates a potential for assessing damage advance and predicting the remaining creep life of metals.

Effect of plasma cutting on the fatigue resistance of Fe510 D1 steel

Article Abstract:

Results show that the fatigue resistance of plasma cut specimens of Fe510 steel is comparable to that of milled specimens although plasma cut surfaces differed from milled surfaces.
