Despite study, questions surround Yucca Mountain

Article Abstract:

The choice of Nevada's Yucca Mountain as the proposed dumping site for radioactive waste from the US' nuclear power plants has sparked controversy. The National Research Council disputed earlier findings on the possibility of groundwater contamination and cited that the low incidence of earthquakes, minor volcanic activity and climatic conditions are unlikely to cause the water table level to reach the nuclear waste. Meanwhile, Las Vegas Mayor Jan Laverty Jones voiced his objections to the project and questioned the US Congress' authority to implement such a high-risk project in any area.

Rocky mountain HOV

Article Abstract:

The reconstruction of the interstate 25 I-70 interchange organized by Colorado DOT, which is nearing completion, will include reversible high-occupancy vehicle highway, advanced traffic-management technologies and the Mile High Courtesy Patrol. The centralization of traffic control systems and the use of mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls will help to improve traffic management in the area. Decontaminating two hazardous-waste sites surrounding highway was another major activity connected to the project.
