Discovering genes for new medicines

Researchers hope that isolating human genes implicated in disease will help them create therapeutic proteins that will hasten the development of new drugs. Technological advances that help scientists identify genes of medical importance are discussed.

Issues concerning the slowing of the aging process of the muscles and heart by the breaking of age related sugar-protein bonds are presented. The rapid aging of diabetics who suffer from sugar-driven damage is discussed.

Male imprinted genes have been found to fight the mother's genes for nutrition in utero. The fight is over the size of the baby, with male genes' evolutionary role biased toward a larger fetus.
