Does a Globe-Girdling Disturbance Jigger El Nino?

Article Abstract:

Scientists knew how to measure the temperature of the Pacific Ocean in order to determine an El Nino, but the measurements were inaccurate because of the Madden-Julian Oscillation. The oscillation sends bursts of warm wind across the Pacific where El Nino starts and restricts the movement of cold water, making water temperatures warmer. It is still an unpredictable phenomenon.

Isotopic tracers of past ocean circulation: turning lead to gold

Article Abstract:

Laser mass spectrometry of radiogenic isotopes was used to provide further information about how ocean circulation has changed through time. Understanding ocean circulation changes is critical to understanding climactic changes through geological history.

Coral reefs and carbon dioxide

Article Abstract:

The conclusion that the Siraho reefs may serve as a sink rather than as a source of atmospheric carbon dioxide conflicts with evidence indicating that the reefs were net sources of atmospheric carbon dioxide at the time of measurement.
