Dynamic model development

Article Abstract:

A diffusion reaction model has been developed for studying the mechanics of biofilter operation. The model assumes that the biofilter height is divided into 10 layers, each consisting of three main sections. The dynamic mass balances for each of the layer are solved by means of digital simulation techniques. This approach enables the model to monitor the local gas and biofilm concentrations during both steady- and transient-state biofilter operation. The proposed model has been used successfully in the removal of methyl ethyl ketone and methyl isobutyl ketone vapors from air.

Inductively coupled argon plasma continuous emissions monitor for hazardous air pollutant metals

Article Abstract:

The inductively coupled argon plasma spectrometer is a useful tool in detecting hazardous air pollutant metals released from boilers, incinerators and furnaces. The device outperforms other commercially available continous emission monitors because of its capability to detect hazardous air pollutant metals in trace levels that range from 0.1 to 20 microng/dry standard cubic meter. One outstanding feature of the inductively coupled argon plasma spectrometer is the introduction of sample air into an argon plasma that allows for more accurate results.

Experimental evaluation of a dynamic model

Article Abstract:

The performance of a diffusion reaction model for determining compost-based biofilter behavior at steady-state and dynamic operating conditions was evaluated. Experiments were performed wherein the concentrations of methyl ethyl ketone and methyl isobutyl ketone in the gas phase were measured by gas chromatography. The measured values were compared with the theoretical results. Excellent agreement was observed between experimental observations and model predictions.
