Response of inorganic PM to precursor concentrations

Article Abstract:

Inorganic particulate matter (PM) responses to precursor concentrations of ammonia, sulfuric and nitric acid show that ammonia emission reductions have a significant impact on PMs but serve to increase atmospheric acidity. Results also show that PM concentration levels respond nonlinearly to sulfate and that PM concentration levels display an overall sensitivity to ammonia and nitric acid for certain atmospheric precursor conditions.

Comparison of 1-pK and 2-pK versions of surface complexation theory by the goodness of fit in describing surface charge data of (hydr)oxides

Article Abstract:

Surface complexation models for hydroxide surface charge data description are evaluated and results show that the 1-pK basic Stern model (BSM) should be considered the first model of choice. The 1-pK BSM model has an excellent fit and unique estimated parameters for hydroxides while the 2-pK constant capacitance model may be used for a constant ionic strength case when data allow for the determination of unique parameters.
