Will consumers benefit from new power era?

Article Abstract:

The inevitable and complex deregulation of the US electricity industry will reduce consumer bills by over 25 billion US dollars per annum. However, the deregulation process is complicated and should be carefully planned to ensure success. Market competition regulations were released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in 1996. Consumers are accustomed to a reliable service and some many be disappointed by a relatively small reduction in electricity charges after deregulation.

Electricity consumers in some areas such as New York expect a reduction in electricity prices.
