Electronic trading and futures market efficiency

Article Abstract:

Trading futures contracts by computer would remove some of the inefficiencies of the current system, such as front running, dual-trading, and inaccurate time and price reporting. Computers would allow a more efficient market by incorporating more of the known information into any futures trade. However, opponents of computerized trading do not wish to see arbitrage profits disappear, and also believe that computers could introduce uncertainties. Regulation of the electronic trade would be an additional complication.
