Entrapment of Iodine with Cyclodextrins: Potential Application of Cyclodextrins in Nuclear Waste Management

Article Abstract:

Hungarian researchers found that cyclodextrins (a starch derivative) when added to an air filter, effectively traps substantial gaseous radioactive iodine, which is a significant contaminant of nuclear waste and nuclear power plant accidents such as occurred at Chernobyl.

Osteoderms of Estuarine Crocodiles Record Their Enhanced Pb Exposure in Kakadu National Park

Article Abstract:

Researchers examined the dermal bones (osteoderms) of the estuarine crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) to determine the amount of lead exposure resulting from aboriginal hunters who have switched from spears to lead ammunition. Figures accompany the article.
