ASCE joins ranks of congressional fellows

Article Abstract:

The ASCE Board of Direction has approved the conduction of Congressional Fellows Program, wherein a member of the ASCE will go to Washington to help in the legislative process and learn the functioning of the government. The program has several advantages. In due time a group of scientists will be equipped with legislative experience and contacts, and there will be several congressional staffers who understand science and engineering. The program is open to any ASCE citizens who are US citizens.

ASCE forms wind hazard reduction caucus

Article Abstract:

Issues discussed concern the American Society of Civil Engineer's management of a caucus devoted to addressing the hazards of structural damage caused by high winds. Topics the caucus will address include reducing buildings' susceptibility to wind damage, coordinating research funds, and building Congressional support for the project.

Math and science education get a boost

Article Abstract:

This article discusses measures taken to improve science and mathematics education with investments on professional development programs for teachers and incentives for those choosing teaching as a career. Vernon Ehlers and Pat Roberts support by intiating legislative actions is a boost to the program.
