Lean times ahead for environmental R&D funding

Article Abstract:

The debate between Congress and the Clinton administration regarding Pres. Bill Clinton's FY 1996 budget request is likely to have a detrimental on the EPA's environmental research and development programs. Although the Clinton administration is keen on raising the EPA's research and development budget by 15%, this proposal is expected to be rejected by the Republican-dominated Congress. Small budget cuts area may also be imposed by Congress on the Dept. of Energy's environmental management programs.

Clinton proposes to cut environmental health, research programs

Article Abstract:

The Clinton administration is reportedly planning to cut funding for two key superfund-related health and research programs. According to a recent memo, the administration plans to halve the budget for the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry by the year 2000 and dissolve the Superfund Basic Training and Research Program by 1999. Supporters of the two programs have criticized the plan, saying that their elimination would have an adverse impact on future generations.
