Exchange Place Station subsurface reconstruction and improvements

Article Abstract:

The renovation plans for the Exchange Place Station of the Port Authority Trans-Hudson Corp. (PATH) in Jersey City, NJ, is presented. The station was built in the early 1900s in an area near the Hudson River with inferior soil. A greater passenger traffic and demand for better safety has forced PATH to make improvements. Restoration plans call for the a new escalator shaft for present platforms, new foundations for an office building and an esplanade, a new structural support, joining the existing vent shaft and the repair of the bulkhead.
