Suicides in Hong-Kong and Singapore: a tale of two cities

Article Abstract:

A study focused on suicide statistics from Hong Kong and Singapore over the period 1984-1994. Results showed the similarity between suicide behaviors in both countries. A direct relationship was found between suicide rates and age, with a sharp increase found among the elderly. Low teenage suicide was found, as well as a low male to female ratio. Jumping from heights was the most common method of suicide.

Article Abstract:

The hunger for pleasure drives the appetite more than the physiological need for food does, so people tend to eat for the fun of it, rather than for nourishment. Dieters can use this pleasure-seeking tendency as a dieting tool by taking part in pleasurable activities that do not involve food.
