Butyltin contamination in marine mammals from North Pacific and Asian coastal waters

Article Abstract:

Sixty-three cetaceans belonging to 14 species and four pinnipeds belonging to two species drawn from North Pacific and Asian coastal water were found to have high hepatic concentration of butyltin compounds (BTs) such as tributyltin, dibutyltin and monobutyltin. Results revealed high degree of butyltin contamination in coastal waters than in the open sea as evidenced by the increased level of BT concentrations detected in coastal species and small traces found in off-shore species.

Article Abstract:

Studies show that atrazine and metachlor have a diffusive length scale of under 1 micrometer in a Merrimac fine sandy loam. Hence, the use of a diffusion limiting sphere-equivalent diameter of 3 x 10(super -6) was justifiable. The use of a Permachor value of 50 cal mL is also reasonable since this represents an intermediate value between the 50 cal mL and the 60-70 cal mL range proposed by other researchers.
