Fermat prover points to next challenges

Article Abstract:

Wiles, the Princeton mathematician who proved the notorious Fermat's Last Theorem, is turning his attention to the simple but unexplained questions of elliptic curves. His Fermat proof provides new insights into solving cubic equations, a key component of elliptic curves.

Fermat's last theorem finally yields

Article Abstract:

Wiles' announced proof of the 17th-century mathematician's last unsolved theorem evoked shared pride rather than scepticism since it used the latest advances in number theory. A link with the Taniyama-Weil conjecture may make the theorem actually useful.

A new step for Fermet's Last Theorem

Article Abstract:

Researchers conducted a major computational effort to determine that Fermat's Last Theorem is true for all exponents up to 4 million. The finding has provided insights about number theory and new computational techniques.
