The rationale for above-surface facilities

This article discusses the innovative ideas deployed in the design, construction, and maintenance of research stations by the international community in Antartica. The construction calls for "elelvated" stations at an height of 3 to 5 meter above the snow surface with built in capacity to raise them above the snow cover.
