Flight 800: anatomy of an investigation

Article Abstract:

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board, despite using several high-tech equipment, have not found an answer to two airplane disasters. The investigation was made difficult because the wreckage of both the ValuJet DC-9 and the TWA Flight 800 jumbo-jet are submerged underwater.

Why airplanes crash

The government needs to focus on the human factor when developing effective air safety programs. This factor is the leading cause of airline crashes, followed by defective and poorly maintained aircraft and unfavorable weather conditions.

Microplanes

Spy planes are being developed to contain powerful electronics including video cameras within a frame only as big as model airplanes. These devices could be used for both civilian and military applications.
