Fluctuating enzymes: Lessons from single-molecule studies

Article Abstract:

The single molecule experiments have demonstrated that that the single molecule approach is extremely powerful in unraveling the conformational and enzymatic dynamics and have generated new insights about how enzymes conformational fluctuations modulate catalytic activity. The single-molecule Michaelis-Menten equations reconcile single-molecule and ensemble-averaged kinetics and the conformational fluctuations and dynamic disorder is described by non-Markovian dynamics.

The induction of chirality in sol-gel materials

Article Abstract:

Some of the approaches that lead to chiral sol-gel materials are reviewed. These include the use of silanes bearing a chiral group for silylating the surface of the porous sol-gel (SG) material, the use of such silanes as monomers or co-monomers in SG polycondensations, the physical entrapment of chiral molecules and many others.

Multiple modes of active center communication in thiamin diphosphate-dependent enzymes

Article Abstract:

Evidence for active-center interactions is presented for thiamin diphosphate-dependent enzymes such as yeast pyruvate decarboxylase, benzoylformate decarboxylase, and others. The dissymmetry of active sites is especially evident in the X-ray structures of these enzymes with substrate/substrate analogues bound.
