For a successful supernova, mix well, then explode

Article Abstract:

Supercomputers have enabled the first successful simulations of supernovae. In previous models of collapsing stars, shock waves from the rebounding inner core always lost energy before an explosion could occur. Circulation patterns modeled in two dimensions instead of traditional 1-D produced the explosions.
