Force-carrying web pervades living cell

Article Abstract:

Biologists Andrew Maniotis and Donald Ingber have shown that the surface of a cell acts as a signal transduction mechanism as well as a structural support. Using video microscopy, micro-manipulation and the latest reagents, they demonstrated spontaneous mechanical forces on the nucleus from the surface.
