Budget-balancing proposals passed in the House and Senate suggested huge cuts in federal research and development programs, as expected. Plans for research activities of the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, NASA and the Energy and Commerce Depts are discussed.

Selling science: at what price?

Article Abstract:

Some science activists want scientists to take a more aggressive role in lobbying the federal government for funding. Others maintain this approach could harm the traditional bipartisan support of science and favor a more conservate approach to lobbying.
