Geographer of the Male Genome: the notion of the Y sex chromosome as a genetic wasteland still entices biologists. David C. Page has spent a good part of his career knocking down that myth

Article Abstract:

Sequencing research conducted by David C. Page shows that the Y chromosome contains about 80 genes, far more than conventionally believed. Survival of the Y chromosome, previously theorized to become extinct, now instead seems likely as it has been found to donate intact genes to correct defective copies.

Personal pills: genetic differences may dictate how drugs are prescribed

Pharmaceutical firms have become aware of the consequences of mismatching DNA in patients and drugs. Firms are intent on creating customized pharmaceuticals by analyzing individual genetic differences to prevent negative reactions in patients which may cause toxicity in drugs.

A new process, called desktop manufacturing, is allowing parts to be designed on personal computers. The technology takes weeks and even months off the time used in the laborious process of designing prototypes.
