High-tech highway

Article Abstract:

A Smart Road, a two-mile stretch connecting the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Virginia Tech to Interstate 81 near Blacksburg, VA, houses technology and research facilities. The project may enable transportation engineers to design better pavement and roads that last longer.

Road Test

Article Abstract:

This article describes testing track for pavement designs constructed at the National Center for Asphalt Technology at the Auburn University, Alabama. The track is about 1.8 miles used to simulate pavement performance over 10- to 20-year period under actual loading conditions.

Wind turbine shaken on world's first outdoor table

Article Abstract:

The largest shake table in the United States was tested with a shake of a 70 feet high wind turbine lasting 40 seconds. This was the first ever test of a wind turbine and this has opened the opportunity to physically validate many construction systems.
